Clean acrylic sheet with a commercial plastic cleaner such as "Brillianize" or "Novus". It is important to use a soft cotton cloth (flannel, a soft cotton t-shirt, or cotton diaper). If a commercial cleaner is not available, use mild soap and water. Always use a soft cloth!

Slight scratches, those that can not be detected with a fingernail, can be removed with an abrasive cleaner such as "Mirrorglaze" or "Novus". Place a small dot of this cleaner on a soft rag and with your finger behind the rag, rub out the scratch and wipe clean. If there is no improvement then buffing or a combination of sanding and buffing will be necessary.

Tape, band aid, label and all such adhesive residues can often be removed with kerosene. Either use a small dot on a rag for small situations or dribble onto the area to soak for larger jobs then wipe clean.

Buffing out scratches is a process by which depending on the severity of the scratch the affected area is sanded with increasing grades of sand paper and then buffed with a buffing wheel on which compound is applied attached to an electric drill. It is sometimes common to begin with 120 and end with 600 with two grades in between. Micro grades such as 1200 and 1500 are also available requiring less buffing or simply an aggressive "Mirrorglaze" rub.

Do not use alcohol to clean acrylic. The likelihood of producing an effect know as crazing is usually present and will ruin the acrylic. Crazing is caused by the release of molecular pressure which occurs in the flame polishing process. Mild crazing can sometimes be removed through a flaming process but is not something you can count on.
